The sr. technical buyer will be the liaison between product development, R&D, project management, manufacturing engineering and production departments and our current and yet to be developed suppliers.
The sr. technical buyer will oversee the expansion of our procurement requirements and supplier base to support the company’s aggressive growth strategy.

Sr. Technical Buyer


  • Discover new suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Quality department to qualify new suppliers.
  • Onboard new suppliers.
  • Maintain supplier metrics and report to management and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve their performance.



  • Negotiate terms of contracts.
  • Import regulations and customs
  • Negotiate supplier and quality agreements



  • Write RFQs and field supplier’s questions.
  • In collaboration with the buyer manage inventory and execute purchase orders.
  • Drive cost saving and lead time reduction initiatives.
  • Support project management’s need for new parts, services and suppliers.
  • Conduct ECO workflow and execute changes.
  • Track component sourcing cost variances that affect project budgets.



  • Continuously expand and develop the supplier base and support suppliers in their development plans where needed.
  • Develop and manage a supplier risk matrix.
  • Develop procurement strategies with buyer and planner.
  • Develop commodity strategies.
  • Align with maxon Engineering Services, Business Development and Manufacturing Engineering groups to ensure timely execution of product development projects.
  • Monitor market trends, supply chain disruptions and form strategies to manage them. Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
  • Align with maxon global procurement strategies and activities.
  • Present procurement strategies, KPIs, action plans and similar management tools to all stakeholders.



  • Capable to read technical drawings
  • Be familiar with a wide range of manufacturing techniques and their characteristics such as: turning, milling, grinding, annealing, surface treatments, casting, injection molding, fabrication, etc.
  • Be familiar with mechanical OTS components, such as bearings, adhesives, lubricants, fasteners, etc.
  • Be familiar with measurement techniques and their applications. Keywords are caliper, micrometer, measuring machine, comparator, GD&T, tolerance.
  • Conduct complex ERP and Excel operations.
  • Communicate clearly in written and verbal forms.
  • Possess strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.



This job operates in a manufacturing assembly environment. There is an expectation you will be comfortable working in an assembly area. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to factory areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment.



This position may require US travel, mostly local, to suppliers.
